Raigad Fort is best known for its association with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire. It served as the capital of his kingdom from 1674 to 1689 and was the site of his coronation as Chhatrapati in 1674. The fort played a pivotal role in the rise of the Maratha Empire and was one of Shivaji Maharaj’s most strategically important strongholds.
